Safe Routes to School

Providing safe routes to school supports children utilizing non-motorized methods of transportation which impacts their physical health, mental well-being, and builds a sense of neighborhood.  

 
Healthi Kids, Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency: Studies demonstrate that walking one mile to and from school each day allows kids to get two-thirds of their daily recommended physical activity. Walking to school is one way to promote a healthy weight and encourage daily physical activity. Healthi Kids has partnered with parents from the Rochester City School District to assess how safe it is for kids to walk to school every day and continues to work to improve the barriers to walkability.
