Healthy Hero Week Begins May 2, 2010

Healthy Hero temporary tattoos will be everywhere the week of May 2, 2010, which is “5 2 10.” Greater Rochester Health Foundation is inviting everyone to celebrate Healthy Hero Week and to have fun while helping kids be more physically active and improve their nutrition. The Foundation is distributing the tattoos to all children ages 2-12 who participate in an activity through an organized group.

Chef Daisy Martinez extols healthy meals to Latinas

At Saturday's "¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina!" rally, Chef Daisy Martinez told parents that the way to help the next generation grow up healthy is to look to generations past. Martinez's presentation fit into the Latinas Unidas' rally theme "Healthy Living, Healthy Choices." The organization aimed to empower Latinas ages 7 to 18 and their parents with workshops on such topics as money management, healthy relationships and college access.

Marta Bermudez of Adonai Community Services is named a new Healthy Hero for bringing recreational equipment for kids into an urban park.

Tip of the Day 4

For a healthy snack, add low-fat cheese to whole-grain crackers. A serving of cheese is 1 ounce: about the size of two dominos. Six medium-size crackers are one serving.
