The Greater Rochester Health Foundation will match your contributions to the following childhood overweight and obesity prevention areas:

  • Childcare centers—The Children’s Institute, YMCA of Greater Rochester, and Action for a Better Community Head Start are working to increase physical activity and improve nutrition for children ages 2 to 5 in both early childcare centers and family and group childcare settings.

  • Schools initiative—Elementary schools in the Penfield, Webster, and Honeoye Falls/Lima Central School Districts are using new strategies to increase physical activity and improve nutrition for children ages 6 to 10.

  • Advocacy—A grassroots advocacy approach to change local and state policies relating to childhood overweight and obesity.

  • Mini grants—GRHF provides funding in amounts ranging from $500 to $10,000 to organizations that want to increase physical activity and/or improve nutrition for Monroe County children and youth ages 2 to 18.

  • Healthy Heroes—Healthy Heroes are individuals or groups that have gone above and beyond to improve children's nutrition and/or physical activity. We recognize these individuals and groups with a $500 donation to their organization or an organization of their choice.

Tip of the Day 1

Use low-fat milk instead of whole. It's better for your child and tastes good too!
