Your Child's School

School-age kids spend many of their waking hours at school. The Greater Rochester Health Foundation along with Healthi Kids support the following policies to ensure kids have access to healthy foods and activities throughout the school day:

  • At least 45 minutes of physical activity each school day for all students—kindergarteners through 12th-graders.

  • A building-wide plan for active recess in all weather conditions every day in elementary schools.

  • School menus that only feature foods endorsed by the national school breakfast and lunch program ensures those foods are healthy for kids.

  • Nutritional standards that ensure all foods on school menus meet a set of community standards.

Schools that adopt these policies will go far in supporting your family’s healthy living efforts--learn how you can get involved today.

Tip of the Day 1

Use low-fat milk instead of whole. It's better for your child and tastes good too
