Shop Smart

Healthy eating doesn’t have to break the bank.

Try these savvy shopping strategies:

  • Look for sales and coupons for fruits and vegetables.

  • Chop your own fruits and vegetables at home. Pre-cut produce costs more than whole.

  • Consider store-brand frozen fruits and veggies—they’re often less expensive than brand names.

  • Say no to single servings of produce. Small packages are often more expensive than larger ones.

  • Shop discount grocery stores for deals on fruits and vegetables—especially frozen and canned items--because they are all healthy for kids.

  • Pick supermarkets over convenience stores. Larger stores have a wider selection and produce is often cheaper.

  • Shop at local public markets for fresh produce. Try the Rochester Public Market or search for otherlocal farmer's markets.

Tip of the Day 10
