There is a lot working against raising a healthy child. Food companies spend billions to get our kids to beg for unhealthy products. Safe places to plat are hard to come by. Neighborhoods aren't built near city centers or cool places to walk to. Schools don't give our kids enough physical education or recess time. School lunch is usually not healthy. What's a parent to do? Take action!!

There are people out there who are working on fixing all these problems and we can join them! Most of us have little free time as it is, but we don't have to take on the world. We can pick one issue that is important and easy to work on. Think of it as a community service, socializing and a learning opportunity all in one!

There are so many great groups out there who need our help. Each one if us has something special that we can add to this world (other than our children of course). We can make a big difference in the health of our children and our community by taking a stand.

Here are some groups that are worth looking into:

Action for Healthy Kids- Work to increase activity and healthy school food!

Better School Food- Improve school food and increase awareness of the healthy food- better learning connection!

2 Angry Moms- Join other moms in the fight to make sure all kids can enjoy a healthy school lunch!

Center for Science in the Public Interest- Tell your local government reps that they should make an effort to improve the health of all Americans1

Alliance for a Healthier Generation- Join Bill Clinton and the American Heart Association in their fight to decrease childhood obesity in America!

Safe Routes to School- Work to get a safe route to school in your community so kids can start walking again!

Rails to Trails- Work to get more unused railroads changed to walking, biking, and hiking trails in yuour community!

We Can!- Help your children stay at a healthy weight by learning ways to get them moving and eating healthy!

New York State Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Alliance- Improve policies and practices in NY State to help kids gets moving and eating healthy!
